Preparing For a Project

March was the month of preparation! We’ve been lining up projects for the rest of the year and getting ready to get started on each one with its unique needs. While each job is very different from the other we do follow a very similar step by step process preparing for any project.

Steps to a well prepared project.

Step 1 Meeting

A great deal of time is spent of refining the vision for your project.

We love having long conversations and getting to know you and how you live or would like to live. We’ll have a few meetings to discuss style, colour and functionality. We’ll also chat about timelines, deadlines and milestones. We’ll take advantage of our visit and take copious photos, videos and take measurements where needed.

Step 2 Design

Dreaming up schemes. This is the fun part where nothing is off limits and I give myself all the time and space needed to look at inspiration, trends, materials, textures and technologies.

A moodboard starts to take shape.

Step 3 Project definition

We finalise fabric selections and furniture choices for a moodboard. I like to make an electronic moodboard I can send to clients. I also make a physical moodboard I can bring along to the presentation along with fabric samples, wallpaper books, cuttings and other material choices.

All my selections for furniture, furniture placing, finishes and materials as well as my sketches go to the design team who then translates everything into beautiful 3D renders.

Step 4 Concept Development

With the design under my arm we meet again for a presentation and to discuss feedback and input from our clients.

Step 5 Feedback

We incorporate all the concerns and feedback so that everything aligns with the project vision.

Step 6 Detailed Documentation

Once we get sign off on the 3Ds we can prepare technical drawings for floor plans, elevations, and sections for construction and fabrication.

Step7 Budgeting and Quotation

We can then sit down to calculate costs for materials, labor, and any additional services.

We prepare a comprehensive, detailed quote outlining costs, terms, and conditions for the client.

Step 8 Project Management Planning

We then develop a project timeline with key milestones for execution.

Preparing to get started on a project can take up a lot of time, between 1-3 months if not longer, depending on the size of the project. From the outside it might seem like a waste of time but this is the most important part of the process. Because the better prepared you are the better you can make on the spot choices and tackle unexpected surprises.

Warmly,

Lisa
