When I first arrived in Cape Town from Paraguay, in 2001, I knew no one.
One day, walking past a shop window, I saw Shirley Fintz’s stacked animals and Barbara Jackson’s striking colourful vessels, and I fell in love.
So when shortly after I was handed a flyer advertising pottery classes at Barbara Jackson ceramic studio (link through: https://www.straussart.co.za/artists/barbara-jackson) I knew I had to join. For the next 10 years of my time in Cape Town I attended the studio every Tuesday morning.
An enduring deep love for working with clay and appreciating the slow progression of adding coil after coil to build vessels and figures was born.
In 2013 I left Cape Town and and the studio and moved to Joburg to start a new life. I looked for a new pottery community but no other studio could ever replicate the energy, friendships and inspiration I had and felt at Barbara’s.

I did not touch clay until I met an incredible team of local artisans and felt compelled to share the beauty of what they produce.
I’m hoping to entice you to share in my love for the slow life and the beauty of handmade, one-of-a-kind treasures for everyday living. Thanks to the durability of earthenware our products are made to use and to enjoy everyday and not just on special occasions because everyday is a special occasion and should be celebrated as such.
